The Manhattan Project Overview |
||
The Manhattan Project began in a building called Tower 270 in Manhattan, New York (where the name came from). In 1943 it was moved to Tenessee, but when it was time for a lab to be built to construct the bomb, they decided on Los Alamos, New Mexico, an area of desert in the middle of no where. It was top secret; every person and their families need to keep in secrecy of the project they were working on. The site was completely isolated, mail was screened before it came in, or left, and the workers' drivers licenses only had a number, not a name. The top secret Manhattan Project had begun in 1942. |
